Privacy
Last updated October 13, 2026. The whole design of this service is about revealing as little as possible, as late as possible.
What we collect
- Everyone: email (for passwordless sign-in), first name, phone, ZIP code, and optionally a payment handle.
- Foster families: street address and a short note about your licensing, used only by coordinators to verify your account.
- Volunteers: self-reported tier and travel radius.
- Activity: needs posted, offers made, matches, logged hours, ratings, and the time you confirmed a caseworker check.
We never collect information about foster children, and our guidelines forbid members from posting any.
Who can see it
- Other members see your first name, city, and (for volunteers) tier, ratings, and hours. Nothing else.
- After a family confirms a volunteer, the two of them — and only the two of them — see each other's phone, email, payment handle, and (for the volunteer) the family's street address.
- Coordinators see account details needed to verify families and investigate concerns. Their actions are logged.
We don't sell, rent, or share your information with anyone else. We don't run ads or trackers.
Where it lives
Data is stored in a managed database in the United States and served through Vercel. Sign-in links are sent by email and expire in 30 minutes. Your ZIP code is matched against a public dataset of ZIP centroids to estimate distance — we store the centroid, not a precise location.
Your choices
Change your tier, travel radius, or payment handle anytime from your dashboard. To delete your account and its data, email hello@fostercircle.org. Logged hours and ratings tied to completed help may be retained in anonymized form for reporting.
